You can put your thumb and finger on either side of the button twist and it will lock. But you obviously have to have a key to unlock it. The only real way to fix the problem is to replace it with a standard safety button. You can simply not use the J-lock, and treat this safety just like any other safety - push it to the left to fire, push it to the right for the "safe" position.
